Foodbank
Our food bank seeks to provide a three-day emergency food parcel for those who are in need.
We receive our food from different places around Derby – individuals, schools, businesses, churches and other charities all contribute to helping people in crisis. We are thankful for any donation, whether it be food (long shelf life and in date) or money – the more we receive, the better we can ensure we can fill the food parcels all year round.
“I really appreciate the friendships I’ve made since volunteering at the Hope Centre.”
- Hope Centre Volunteer
Hope Store
Our Hope Store seeks to provide good quality donated clothing, toiletries, and kitchen equipment to those assessed as being in need of this service.
People in need of items can book an appointment and pick up a Hope Store voucher from a number of agencies within Derby, or with one of our signposters during the Food Bank drop in. Access to this service is on a quarterly basis. We provide essential household and clothing items to a wide range of people in crisis including young people, the elderly, low-income families, children, single parents, refugees and asylum seekers of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds living in poverty and those fleeing domestic violence. Currently, we are serving 20-30 customers a week and as you can imagine, as quickly as items come in they go out again. We would just like to say a big thank you to all of you who have donated to us over the past year.
Our system
Our Food Bank works with a face to face signposting system. You just need to turn up during our Food Bank drop-in hours. If you are struggling and need the Food Bank support, we would love to help but instead of just giving you a food parcel, we would like to sit with you and have a chat to understand what is going on. That way we will be able to help you as long as you need.
Our Hope Store remains on a voucher system. You can obtain one from one of the more than 60 agencies in the city that supply our vouchers, or during the conversation with our signposter. They will determine if you are eligible for a voucher, and you will need to bring it with you to a Foodbank / Hope Store session at the Hope Centre.
